A Vision for the Year Ahead
Doctor Gundersen of La Crosse was elected President-Elect of the Wisconsin Medical Society during the Society's Annual Meeting April 7 in Madison. He will succeed Chip Morris, MD and become the 169th President of the Society in April 2020. Dr. Gundersen is a board-certified family physician, and recently began a new position with Marathon Health as the medical director of the Kwik Trip Center for Health. Prior to that, he practiced family medicine full-time for 20 years with Gundersen Health System in Onalaska.
Timothy Westlake, MD, Vice Chair
Wisconsin Medical Examining Board
The inside scoop on the Medical Examining Board and the the state’s opioid reform strategy, questions and answers.
Dr. Westlake, is an emergency medicine physician with ProHealth Care and vice chair of Wisconsin’s Medical Examining Board. He is the MEB’s member on the state’s Controlled Substances Board, and has championed physician involvement in shaping Heroin, Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) legislation. He was also instrumental in the development of the MEB’s Opioid Prescribing Guidelines and requiring education on the guideline for Wisconsin-licensed physicians.
Dr. Westlake has been involved in the continuing development of the enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which is considered a national model, and at the federal level, Dr. Westlake worked with Senator Ron Johnson on the Promoting Responsible Opioid Prescribing—or PROP—Act.
